Speech to Text Pro serves the two genuinely different transcription needs rather than forcing both through one pipeline. File transcribe handles recorded audio and video within an admin-set size limit. Live transcribe streams microphone audio in chunks and builds the transcript as the person speaks, so a meeting or interview is already written up by the time it ends.

The two paths are billed on different bases because they cost differently: file transcription per minute of audio, live transcription per character produced. Each also takes its own API key, which means the vendors can be chosen and scaled independently — if one is cheaper for long recordings and the other better at real-time, you use both rather than compromising on one. Transcripts are saved to the user's own list where they can be retitled, reviewed and deleted, so a session becomes a document rather than a one-time output.
